How do you give your availability and then get matches allocated to you?

AVAILABILITY -

Every month, around the 15th, referees will be sent an email via FULL-TIME from the YEL asking you to give your availability for the coming month.

The availability asked for is quite specific to ensure as many games are covered as possible and referees get to referee as many games as they would like. Obviously this is not always possible but we do our very best to try and keep everyone happy.

The various types of availability we ask for are as follows:

AM – morning only – 1 game a day

AM2 – two games in the morning only

AM/PM – morning OR afternoon game only

PM – afternoon game only

BOTH – one morning and one afternoon game only

BOTH3 – max three games during the day

N/A - Not available

You will need to put one of these codes next to each of the dates mentioned in the Availability Request email to ensure there is no misunderstanding.

IF YOUR AVAILABILITY CHANGES YOU MUST NOTIFY THE LEAGUE AS SOON AS POSSIBLE SO THAT WE CAN AMEND OUR INFORMATION - yel@live.co.uk

MATCH ALLOCATION -

Matches are allocated by YEL Referees Appointments  one week in advance of the fixture using the availability information referees supply. This is why it is vital to update your availability on an ongoing basis.

The allocations are based on your availability, qualifications, experience and location. We try to allocate referees within their specified mileage distance from home. This is not always possible and, occasionally, we would ask you to help the league out by travelling a little further. If you feel you are being asked to go too far on a regular basis please send us an email and we can discuss it/amend your specified distance.

The appointments for the coming week are sent out by email using FULL-TIME - the FA's system. The automated emails go to the referee and both teams usually late afternoon/early evening on a Sunday.

If you do not receive an appointment on a Sunday when you have said you are available, this probably means we do not have a suitable match for you - DON'T WORRY! On a Monday evening the league sends out a LATE AVAILABILITY email to all registered YEL referees detailing all of the unappointed games. If you see a game or games which you feel is suitable to you and you are qualified to referee, simply drop a reply stating which game/s you would be interested in. The more alternatives you offer, the more likely you are to get a game.

The cut off point for allocating games is Wednesday evening. It is only in exceptional circumstances that games are allocated on a Thursday or Friday. This gives clubs/teams the opportunity to arrange their own club official/parent rather than wondering whether the league is going to find a referee. It also allows them time to use the REFEREES MATCH-UP system on YELonline.com
